The Rainbow (or Gouldian) Finch, though extremely common in captivity, is thought to be very endangered in the wild. Specific to Northern regions of Australia the Rainbow Finch is a beautifully colored bird which was exported globally for private breeding until 1959. The birds geographic rarity along with it's early exploitation has led to the disproportionate numbers in captivity versus the wild. The Rainbow Finch is currently the subject of a reintroduction and conservation project in northern Australia.
