Description

An abundant renewable resource for your garden!

Coir is a 100% natural and renewable resource. It helps develop more elaborate and stronger root systems as well as reduces root diseases. It expands 6 to 8 times in volume.

Save when you purchase a case of 10 - 250g bricks!

Each bulk 250g brick (10/Case) yields approximately 1.25 total cubic ft. or .125 cubic ft usable material per 250g brick. This equals .75 cu ft of raw coir. A 10/Case pack makes approximately 8-9.5 gallons of potting medium. That's a lot of coir!

ABOUT COIR

Coir (from Malayalam kayar, cord) is a coarse fiber material extracted from the fibrous outer shell of a coconut. Coir is a 100% natural and renewable resource. It has spongy characteristics, possessing excellent air space and drainage with a water holding capacity of greater than 70%.

COIR is Chemically Balanced for Better Results

Helps develop more elaborate & stronger root systems. Ph balanced mixture easily holds and gradually releases nutrients to the roots. Saves on fertilizer by up to 30% compared to rock wool.

COIR is Disease Resistant

Significantly reduces root diseases. Doesn’t contain weeds, seeds, or pathogens.

COIR Makes the Highest Quality Potting Mix

High lignin (greater than 70%) and cellulose content prevents oxidation and shrinkage. Contains organic compounds unavailable in other hydroponic mediums. Replaces the use of sphagnum, and is superior to peat moss and rock wool for structural stability, water absorption and drainage, cation exchange capacity and electrical conductivity.

Features

• Replaces peat moss, rockwool & perlite.
• Compressed bricks are easy to handle & store.
• Disease Resistant.
• Excellent air space & water holding capacity.
• pH Neutral.
• Holds between 6 to 8 times its volume in water.

Coir Growing Medium

5kg Coir Brick (shown above in wheel barrow). A 90/Case quantity of 250g Coir Bricks is equal to (4.5) 5kg bricks of coir.

Using Coir

Coir has many different uses. It is a good product to use to improve the flow of moisture in your gardens. It is also a great mulch and soil treatment, allowing you to turn clay and sandy soil into an effective growing medium. Coir can help control soil erosion and is a great bedding material for worm composters. It is also a great hydroponic growth medium which helps to facilitate seed germination. By adding one part coir to two parts top soil you can make a perfect growing media for container or potted plants.

The Difference Coir versus Peat Moss

Coir is a sustainably produced renewable resource that is free of bacteria and fungal spores. Coir lasts three times as long as peat moss. It is a natural by-product of coconut and is readily available. Peat moss can take five to ten years to reproduce making it a non-renewable resource. The pH levels of coir are very neutral, ranging from 5.8 to 6.8 whereas peat moss lowers the pH of surrounding soil.

What to do and what not to do with coir

A compressed brick, block or bale should be soaked in water for at least 15 minutes before using.

Coir can expand 6 to 8 times in volume. Make sure you have a large enough container when soaking your coir.

Coir can account for up to 40% of a potting mix, so add it to your soil or as an ingredient of your potting mixes.

Always keep the coir that you don't use. Coir is a material that will keep its properties and can be stored/covered for several years.

Our Coco Coir comes in 5kg Blocks or 650g and 250g bulk case packs

Order, Size and Volume Specifations:

Our Coir can be purchased in single 5kg blocks (12 lb shipping wt.), or in bulk 250g bricks (90/Case; 60 lb shipping wt.), bulk 250g bricks (20/Case; 13.3 lb shipping wt.), and bulk 250g bricks (10/Case; 6.7 lb shipping wt.).

Each 5kg coir block yields approximately 2.5 cubic ft. (usable material), enough coir to make 16-19 gallons of potting medium depending on moisture content.

Each bulk 250g brick (90/Case) yields approximately 11.25 total cubic ft. or .125 cubic ft usable material per 250g brick. This equals 6.75 cubic ft of raw coir. A 90/Case pack makes 72-86 gallons of potting medium.

Each bulk 250g brick (20/Case) yields approximately 2.5 total cubic ft. or .125 cubic ft usable material per 250g brick. This equals 1.5 cu ft of raw coir. A 20/Case pack makes 16-19 gallons of potting medium.

Each bulk 250g brick (10/Case) yields approximately 1.25 total cubic ft. or .125 cubic ft usable material per 250g brick. This equals .75 cu ft of raw coir. A 10/Case pack makes 8-9.5 gallons of potting medium.

Note: Coir Blocks and Coir Brick bulk case packs ship dimensionally oversized due to their weight. Most shipping and handling is factored into the price at checkout; however, additional shipping charges may be required depending on order quantities, destination zone, or when combining other items in the store on the same order.
